Rustic yet beautiful

Rustic furniture is very natural looking, made of sticks, twigs or logs, yet a beautiful style statement. From simple need based hand crafted furniture in the past, rustic furniture today has many companies, artists and craftspeople producing a variety of styles with a variety of historical or contemporary influences.

The two basic divisions of rustic furniture comprise of bentwood, where sticks are harvested fresh or steamed to make them supple, then bent into a variety of structures and decorative shapes; and stick, where sticks, straight, curved or forked are assembled into structures and decorative shapes within the structure. At times both styles are fused into the same piece of furniture. Mortise and tenon, and nail or screws hold the members of the furniture together.  Dan Mack, of Warwick and Ralph Kyloe are considered masters and authorities on rustic furniture.

Wood such as hickory, cypress, cedar and pine wood are most commonly used for making rustic furniture. Rustic furniture adds texture, style, and charm to any home décor; from the country-style appeal to a guest room, warmth to a game room, or a welcome atmosphere around the fireplace. No longer rickety and cheap as was implied by its original form, rustic furniture today borders on sophisticated and trendy with beautiful wood, polished logs, and twiggy charm.

The charm and appeal of rustic furniture is the unfinished look, the roughness and ruggedness made comfortable and homey, outdoor or indoors, in the patio or in the garden, rustic furniture is bound to add sophistication to your home by simply being what it is; rustic.
